Aim Trainer — how to play and tips

Aim Trainer is a straightforward, no-frills test of clicking speed and precision. Targets appear one at a time on an empty field — hit each one as fast as you can, and as soon as you do, the next one appears immediately somewhere else. There's no story, no obstacles and nothing to dodge; the entire game is a distilled measure of how quickly and how accurately you can move a cursor to a point and click it. When the clock runs out you'll get your targets per second, your accuracy, and your average time to hit a target, plus a letter grade summarizing the run.

How it works

Click or tap the target to register a hit. A new one appears immediately somewhere else on the field, so there's no downtime between targets and no pause to reset your aim. Before starting, choose a 30 or 60 second run length and one of three target sizes — Large, Normal or Small. Best scores are tracked separately for every combination of duration and size, because a 60-second run on Large targets is a completely different test of stamina and consistency from 30 seconds on Small targets, which leans much more heavily on raw precision.

Why targets per second, and why misses count

The headline score is targets per second rather than a raw hit count, so a 30-second run and a 60-second run are directly comparable even though one gives you twice as much time to rack up hits. Accuracy counts every click you make, including ones that hit empty space rather than a target. That's a deliberate design choice: a trainer that only counts successful hits and ignores misses ends up rewarding spraying clicks wildly across the screen in the hope some land, which is the exact opposite of what aim practice is supposed to build. Your real skill is the combination of both numbers together — 40 hits at 95% accuracy is a meaningfully better result than 45 hits at 60%, even though the raw hit count looks worse.

No parking the cursor

Targets never spawn underneath your current cursor position, and never directly on top of where the previous target just was. That means you always have to actually move the cursor to reach the next one — you can't inflate your score by parking the mouse in one spot and clicking repeatedly, and you can't rely on a lucky respawn landing right where you already are. Every single hit in a run represents a real, measurable movement.

How the timing is measured

Each target's internal clock starts on the frame it is painted to the screen, not the instant the game decides internally to spawn it. If timing started at the spawn decision instead, your average reaction time would silently include a frame or two you couldn't actually see yet, and every recorded score would read slower than your true performance. Measuring from the paint frame keeps the average time-to-hit figure an honest reflection of how fast you actually reacted once the target was visible.

What's a good score?

On Normal targets, most people land somewhere between 0.7 and 1.2 targets per second. Above 1.3 is sharp, and above 1.7 is the range experienced players reach after a lot of practice. Bear in mind that mouse sensitivity, screen size, input device and display refresh rate all affect this figure — a high-refresh monitor and a well-tuned mouse sensitivity can meaningfully change your raw number. The most useful comparison is against your own previous runs on the same settings and the same device, not against someone else's setup, since the numbers aren't standardized across hardware.

Large, Normal and Small targets

The three target sizes aren't just a cosmetic difficulty slider — they test slightly different skills. Large targets are forgiving of small aiming errors, so a run on Large mostly measures raw hand speed and how quickly you can process where the next target appeared. Small targets flip that balance: speed matters less than precise cursor placement, and a single overshoot or undershoot costs you a miss that counts against accuracy. Normal sits in between and is the size most people should use to get a baseline reading before comparing runs, since it's demanding enough to punish sloppy aim without being so small that every run turns into a grind of near-misses.

Tips

Lead with your eyes: look at the new target before you start moving your hand, not while you're still moving toward the previous one's location. Overshooting and correcting costs more total time than a slightly slower, committed movement that lands cleanly the first time. If your accuracy is under about 85%, slow down deliberately — the time you lose to missed clicks, which both waste a click and don't remove a target, is almost always greater than the time you'd gain by rushing. Finally, warm up for a run or two before trusting a score as your real baseline; the first attempt of a session is rarely representative once your hand and eyes have settled into the rhythm of the test.
