Drag left and right to spin the tower. Fall through the gaps and avoid the red zones!
Helix Drop is a fast one-finger arcade game in which a bouncing ball descends a tall rotating tower. Each level of the tower is a ring with a gap in it, and your only job is to turn the tower so the gap is under the ball at the right moment. Fall through enough gaps in a row and the ball turns into a blazing fireball that smashes straight through the platforms below. It looks simple, but the red danger zones and the rising speed make it a real test of timing and nerve.
Press and drag your finger left or right anywhere on the game area to spin the tower. On a computer you can drag with the mouse or use the left and right arrow keys, or the A and D keys. The ball bounces up and down on its own. When a gap in the ring passes beneath the ball it drops through to the next level; when a solid part is under it, the ball simply bounces and waits for you to try again. Colored platforms are safe to land on, but red platforms end the run immediately unless the ball is on fire.
Every ring you pass earns one point. The longer you keep falling without touching a platform, the bigger your combo grows. After three rings in a row the ball ignites, and the next platform it touches is smashed to pieces instead of bouncing, including red ones. That makes it worth taking a risk and dropping through several gaps in quick succession, because a perfect streak both raises your score and clears dangerous platforms from the tower. Landing on any platform resets the combo, so a calm bounce can be just as important as a daring plunge.
The tower ends with a green finish ring. Land on it to clear the level, and the next tower arrives with a new color theme, more rings and more red zones. Early levels have wide gaps and few hazards so you can learn the feel of the rotation. Later towers narrow the gaps and mix more red segments into each ring, which means you need to read the platform below before you commit to a drop.
Look one ring ahead instead of watching the ball. As the ball bounces upward, find the gap in the next platform and start rotating before the ball starts to fall, so the opening is already beneath it on the way down. Make small, smooth movements rather than large swipes; overshooting the gap is the most common way to land on a red zone by accident. When a red segment sits next to the gap, align the ball with the middle of the gap, not the edge. Try to chain at least three gaps when the tower below looks dangerous, because a fireball can erase a whole row of red segments in one go. Finally, relax your grip on the screen: tension makes your swipes jerky.
The game was designed for thumbs: any horizontal drag works, so you never have to aim at a small button. The graphics scale to the size of your screen, the camera follows the ball smoothly, and your best score is stored in your browser. No installation or account is needed, and the game runs fine on older phones.
