COLOR HOP

Tap to hop upward. You can only pass through the color your ball matches!

Color Hop

Color Hop is a one-tap reflex game about timing and color matching. A small colored ball bounces upward through an endless chain of spinning obstacles, and the golden rule is that you can only touch the parts of an obstacle that share the ball's color. Touch any other color and the run ends. Between obstacles you will find star pickups that add to your score and special color swappers that change the ball to a new color, which means you must constantly re-read what is coming next.

How to play

Tap or click anywhere on the screen, or press the space bar or the up arrow, to make the ball hop upward. Between taps gravity pulls it back down, so the rhythm of your taps controls how high and how fast you climb. The first tap starts the run; until then the ball floats in place so you can get ready. The camera follows the ball upward, and if the ball falls below the bottom of the screen the game is over. Each time you pass an obstacle or grab a star you score a point.

The obstacles

Three kinds of obstacles appear. A ring is a circle made of four colored arcs that rotates slowly; you may cross it at an arc matching your color. A double ring places two rings inside each other, spinning in opposite directions, so you have to pass through two matching arcs in one climb. A color bar is a horizontal strip of colored blocks that slides sideways across the screen; you cross it by lining the ball up with a block of your color. Every obstacle contains all four colors, so a safe opening always exists, and the speed gradually increases as your score grows.

Color swappers and stars

The multicolored circle between obstacles is a color swapper. Touching it instantly changes your ball to a different random color, so a gap that was perfect a moment ago may now be the wrong one. The white stars sit in the middle of each obstacle and reward you for flying through the heart of a ring instead of skirting around it. Because stars and the next obstacle are close together, the best scores come from steady, calm hopping rather than frantic tapping.

Tips and strategy

Tap in small, even rhythms rather than big bursts. Short hops give you finer control, so you can hover close to a ring and wait for the right color to rotate into place. Watch the arc coming toward you from one obstacle ahead and note how fast it turns; a slow rotation is easiest to time from below, and a fast one is easier once the ball is already inside the ring. Always check the color swapper before it reaches you, since it can turn a safe approach into a mistake in an instant. When you are nervous and miss often, take a second between hops to re-read the colors; a clean pause beats a rushed tap.

Playing on mobile and desktop

Color Hop needs only a single tap, which makes it ideal for playing one-handed on a phone. The full-screen playfield scales to any display, the game stores your best score in your browser, and it works with a mouse or the keyboard on a computer. There is nothing to install and no sign-up, so you can start a run within seconds.
